Winter Won’t Quit!

Just when everyone were getting their bikes out of storage and looking forward to some great riding, Old Man Winter says “not so fast there bucko!” On Friday and Saturday (April 25-26) it snowed about 16 inches around here and pretty much paralyzed the city for about 36 hours. It was the third highest accumulation in one twenty four hour period in Anchorage’s history. Needless to say, I was disgusted!

The city and most private contractors had their snow equipment put away for the year, resulting in a much slower than usual reaction in clearing the streets.

Almost as quickly as it came, it went away. Sunday and Monday the temps reached almost fifty and melted the snow rather quickly. The streets are wet right now, but by this weekend they should be dry and clear. I’m only theorizing.

The Ak Wild arena football team from Anchorage is now 4 and 2 for the season thus far. Their defense has been strong and their offense adequate in only their second season in existence. Their two losses were on the road, and they are striving for an undefeated home record this season. That may be difficult, since the undefeated Louisiana Swashbucklers are next on the home schedule. They will provide a true measure of how much this Wild team has improved from one year ago.

Finally, I’ve been doing a lot of research about the Yamaha FJR 1300 verses the Kawasaki Concourse 14, both considered sport touring motorcycles. As you all know, I currently ride a Yamaha V-Star 1100 Custom. I love the bike, but being strictly a heavy cruiser its not ideal for long distance riding, which is what I’m interested in pursuing. I must admit and be honest, the factory financing options from Yamaha have me leaning towards the FJR. At the same time, I can’t ignore the 14’s 156 horsepower and the keyless ignition.

Both have great luggage capacity and tremendous power to weight ratios, and both have adjustable windshields. The Kaw has a better factory warrantee, although an extended warrantee is available for either.

I’m gonna go look at the 14 in person this weekend. I’ve always been more of a Yamaha guy, but in this case I’m trying to remain objective in making a decision. I’ve narrowed it to those two bikes, or sit tight with my V-Star, you won’t see me on a Triumph, BMW, or Aprilla. Those bike are just too butt ugly. I mean hey, you gotta like the looks of your bike to fully enjoy it, right?

Alright, break is over, back to work for now.

First Ride of the Year, ‘08

I brought the bike home from the shop on Tuesday morning. They gave me a fresh oil and filter change, and a new valve stem for the front tire. I went right back to work after parking the bike in my garage. Ah but who could work? All I could think about was the bike and the sunshine outside. The temp was supposed to reach 55 or so. At two in the afternoon, I made an executive decision to go for a ride. I very rarely skip any work for personal recreation; in fact, I haven’t even taken a sick day this year. I think I could fidge a few afternoon hours.

By 2:30 I was leaving the house on the V-Star, heading south towards Girdwood. Traffic was light and the Star was purring along. At speed, the wind was fairly cool. Good thing I had a neck gaitor on, that really added to my comfort.

I fueled up at Girdwood and continued south. I must admit that at Summit Lake (the top of the pass) I was getting kinda cold. The temp must have dropped a good 15 degrees, and my fingers and toes were feeling it. However, once I started down the other side the temp started rising back up, and soon I was very comfortable again.

I rode through Coopers Landing and on down to Sterling. It was right at 100 miles from the fuel stop. By now I was feeling my back and knees pretty good. So I fueled up again and started back home. It was 133 miles to there, resulting in 266 miles round trip. I was gone a little more than five hours. It was a great first ride of the season.

The fore cast is for snow this weekend…..great! I’m so glad I got a ride in before the weather turns. I’m a little sore today, but not bad for 266 miles. I’m trying to work up to 4 or 5 hundred miles per day shape. That’s when I plan on heading up to Fairbanks. Of course, I’m kinda waiting on summer to REALLY arrive as well.

No pics this trip, but I’ll try to do a better job next time.

Finally Sunny, Ouch!

Friday it was pretty nice, and after work I road around the neighborhood some to get the clutch adjusted right. Saturday was forecasted for a beautiful day. Saturday morning I awoke to a flat front tire. On Friday it was low and I had to add some air, but Saturday the rim was on the ground.

Upon further inspection I discovered a problem with the valve stem. It was obvious that it was losing air, and I saw that the needle in the valve was bent. I tried to straighten it out with some needle nose pliers and it only seemed to leak worse. I was dead in the water. I pumped it full of air and road down to Anchorage Yamaha. They could get me in on Monday.

So I sat and enjoyed two beautiful weekend days with a disabled motorcycle. Talk about torture!

Now it is Tuesday, and I’m about to go pick it up. I could have got it last night, but I had no ride. With the oil changed and a new valve stem on the front tire, I should be good for the summer.

I sure hope we have a good one.  Later.

Motorcycle Fever!

This weather is killing me! I mean the snow, the rain, the cold, when will it finally end? I’m suffering from cabin fever, and I need some spring weather.

The other day I strolled through the Yamaha shop and was checking out the new rides. The one that really caught my eye was the FJR 1300 Sport Touring. This really is a good looking bike. It’s basically a tamed down version of a sport bike, fitted with luggage for long distance riding. I mean this thing is touting 148 hp. With the luggage, it’s only about 30 lbs heavier than my cruiser. It’s been a long time since I road an inline four cylinder. I saw the specs on it that said it does 0-60 in barely over 3 seconds. It does 0-100 in about 8 seconds.

I have not ridden one yet, but I will, and I’m looking forward to that performance.

They found a dead man on the trails not far from my house. Apparently, he and a couple fellows were drinking and a gun went off accidentally. Idiots like that give us gun owners a bad rep. Not to mention, I’ll be a little wary on the bike path from now on.

I think the American public has pretty much lost all interest in the Presidential Race. I mean the politicians have dragged it out so long that Americans are literally losing interest. Maybe they’ll get jacked back up this summer when the conventions take place. A few people like Bill O’reilly are trying to keep it fresh on our minds, but really, more people care about American Idol than the Presidency. The recent reports that speculate Clinton refuses to concede because she is too broke are rather interesting, especially since she loaned her campaign 5 million of her own money. I learned that if she quits, she can no longer raise campaign donations which can be used to pay off all campaign debts, including her loan. OF course she wants her personal loan paid back, but what a reason to continue campaigning.

That’s all for now, see ya

Near Miss, No April Fools Joke

Boy was that ever close? Yesterday, while driving south on the Seward Highway I had an extremely close call with a white minivan.

The conditions started out fine, just overcast and threatening to rain. That soon changed at about twenty miles south of Anchorage. While driving along the inlet, it started snowing. Soon it was snowing fairly hard. I had my old chevy in cruise control at 59 mph (the speed limit was posted at 55). As the snow thickened, I could sense that 59 was the outer limit for the worsening conditions.

Now, this white minivan (possibly a Dodge) had been following me for several miles. He was not tailgating me, but somewhat pressing me, and I sensed he wanted to pass. No problem as I soon came upon a long passing lane.

As we approached the passing lane, the posted speed limit changed from 55 to 65 mph. I did not feel the conditions were safe enough to increase my truck’s speed, so I left my cc on at 59 and moved to the slow lane. I assumed the van would have ample time to increase his speed and pass me, and I saw no other vehicles in front or behind us.

It was clear that the slow lane had been used and the passing lane had not. There was very little snow build up in the slow lane, and my tires weren’t throwing much water or snow. The fast lane was just the opposite. There were no tire tracks, and the snow and ice build up was very noticeable. As the van was approaching the rear of my truck in the pass lane, I did notice it was throwing a pretty good rooster tail, and it was having trouble building up its speed. It seemed to take more time than it should to get even with me. Then, finally, it was passing me and as the rear of the van passed my door I started thinking that as soon as he clears my front fender I’m gonna be eating that rooster tail of slush, especially as he changes back into my lane. I reached up and clicked off the cruise to allow him to finish passing and to back off away from that shower of slush. Almost simultaneously as I clicked it off, the van lost traction and fishtailed. In a split second, the front of the van was jerked left into the oncoming lane. It then went into a pair of 360 degree spins.

I had slowed to about 50 by then and was monitoring the vans progress in my side mirror. Had it gone off the road, flipped, or in any other way needed my assistance I would have turned around. It finally came to a stop sideways in the northbound lane. It quickly got restarted and preceded in the correct southbound lane. As a matter of fact, it only took about three miles for the van to again catch up to me. Within those three miles I saw another vehicle on its top in the ditch. There was very little snow on it’s under side, meaning it had not been there long.

I had enough and decided to return to Anchorage and make this trip on another day. As I reached the Girdwood exit, I signaled left and turned in to a coffee shop parking space. Funny, so did the van. The man that exited the van was saying to me how the spinout had puckered his ass pretty good. I merely said I was happy no one got hurt. His wife and him got a quick coffee and hit the road again, almost as if they were trying to get back out there before me.

I got my coffee and returned to Anchorage. I wonder if that guy ever made it to his destination.

I retrospect, had the van been jerked to the right, we would have collided. Hell, we were only a few feet apart at that moment. Also, had there been any oncoming traffic, it could have been real serious. I count my luck stars and that the good Lord for coming back without a scratch.

Supreme Decisions

Wow, there are some interesting court decisions currently pending at various levels. Let’s see, the U.S. Supreme Court will soon be ruling on gun ownership and gun laws. As I have heard it, the case specifically revolves around Washington DC’s laws prohibiting gun ownership. The plaintive maintains that it contradicts his Constitutional rights. And I agree. Hopefully, the Justice’s will too.

Another case before the Alaska State Supreme Court involves the personal possession and use of pot. As I understand it, the Legislature passed a law that would criminalize the possession and use of pot in your home. The ACLU brought the suit that maintains the law is a breach of the State Constitution’s guarantee of the citizen’s privacy. I actually side with the ACLU in this one particular case. This is the first time, and will probably remain the only time that I have ever sided with the fools of the ACLU.

The older I get the more disenfranchised I get with the Republican Party of Alaska. I do believe in the right to privacy, but not at any cost; however, these legislators have got to learn that you can’t make laws infringing on personal rights. I don’t think that personal privacy would trump let’s say child abuse. But, if a person is in his own home, harming no one but possibly himself, he has some privacy expectations and rights.

Finally, I saw where the Legislature voted to not fund a single dollar to any state department who would use it for the new national ID program the Feds have started up.

No matter how I feel about the ID itself, I was happy to see the lawmakers actually do something right for a change. They didn’t pass a law, they didn’t need to, they simply refused to fund it. Perfect! They pass so many BS laws every year that are virtually useless or redundant, it’s nice to see them act responsibly for a change.

This morning I woke up to snow. Disgusting! It hasn’t snowed in about three weeks, and I though we were done with it. In fact, I even had my motorcycle insurance activated for this coming Friday. I can only hope it’s clean and dry by then. I really have the itch!

 Mackey is King, Again!

Lance Mackey was first to cross the finish line in Nome today, winning his second consecutive Iditarod. I haven’t gotten the full report yet, but, I understand he beat second place Jeff King by about an hour. Congrats to him and his family.

I’m still waiting to see where Paul Gephart will finish. If you recall, he was leading the race about four days ago when he thought he had wandered off course. He backtracked about two hours until he met the second place musher. He turned back around and continued, but never really recovered from losing what amounted to almost four hours of running time. I feel for him.

The news reported that oil fell back to under $108 today, relieving the economy from inflationary repercussions. The way they reported that story really annoys me. Almost as if it was a real relief that the price fell below $108. What crap! Real relief would be more like $35 per barrel, where it was just a couple short years ago. Our children will never know oil prices below $90 in their lifetime, I can almost guarantee.

Obama won Mississippi decisively. This race has nothing to do with skin color! About 90% of black voters voted for Obama, while less than 30% of non-blacks chose him. Again, this race has nothing to do with skin color!

 That’s all for today, later.

’08 Iditarod Race Comments

I love the Iditarod! It is commonly referred to as ‘the last great race’. These guys truly race for the love of mushing. They aren’t getting rich off this race, and certainly not off the qualifiers. They truly love the challenge of 1100 miles to Nome both for themselves and their dogs. Out on the trail, battling the elements, other teams, and their own will to push on, we as spectators never get to see the intimacy of this race. There are cameras and press at many of the check points, but what about the ninety miles between Kaltag and Unalakleet (which is where the leaders are as I’m writing this)? What are these guys really thinking and battling along the trail? With today’s technology, why haven’t we seen the use of a “musher’s cam”? Or how about a “sled cam” or “dog cam”? Come on people, let’s step it up a bit in the coverage of this hugely popular race.

Hillary lost Wyoming. Hell, I’m pretty surprised she won Texas. It looks like this thing is gonna be a photo finish (so to speak). Meanwhile, McCain continues to age. He might be 90 before the Dems sort their crap out. And what about Florida, those stupid Democrats can’t really expect to name a Primary winner without Florida votes counting at all can they? This thing is getting pretty interesting.

I saw a story the other day about how men who increase their contribution to the household chores enjoy more sex in their marriage. So guys, if you don’t feel your partner and you are intimate often enough, grab a broom, fold the wash, and clean up the dishes. That’s right, go ahead and change your first name to Alice while you are at it, and continue the feminization of American men.

There isn’t a damn thing wrong with helping out around the house, but not if your partner is using sex as the motivation. That’s just plain ridiculous. Old Bulls help ‘cause they want to, not to receive a special favor.

I seemed to have picked up a bug in my travels, so I’m just kicked back, taking cold meds and listening to the Iditarod results. They should be finishing around Tuesday evening (the 11nth of March).

Final Democratic Debate

I’ve been too busy to comment of late. The days are getting longer and the temperatures are improving. I’d say four more weeks until spring.

I did see the last Dem Debate that was held in Texas, and all I can say is…how chummy it all seemed. I fully expected the debate to end with Hillary giving Barack a little peck on the cheek and a hug. She has all but lost, and I can’t forsee anything she can do to change things around.

I will still watch tonight’s final debate for nothing else but for the entertainment value.

Tomorrow, I’m on the road for a couple weeks, so I’ll try to catch it all up in early March.

Don’t be disappointed.

 Later.

Another Birthday for the State of Oregon

The State of Oregon turns 149 years old today. It became a State on February 14, 1859. I don’t know if any celebrating is planned for this year, but I did read somewhere that they plan on several events around the State to celebrate 150. I guess it’s all in your perspective. I was brought up that your birthday happens on the date of your birth each year. I guess that in Oregon, they plan on celebrating 150 at several venues, while the State is officially only 149. I don’t know, but it seems a little premature.

Obama continues his string of victories over Hillary, with Ohio and Texas looming as a ‘last stand’ for Mrs. Clinton. Although an Obama win will earn me a free steak dinner at Club Paris, I don’t think it will be good for the nation. He is one of the most liberal people in the Senate. He has very little experience. His ideas and programs will never get funded (regardless how much he raises taxes). Finally, his foreign policy will leave us vulnerable to terrorists.

Believe me, I’m no Hillary fan, but I do believe she has more knowledge and common sense about how to proceed internationally.

Then there’s John McCain, who is the consensus Republican winner. My question is ‘how did they let a liberal run as a Republican? And, how did he win?’ I also don’t care for his old age, which is amplified when he gives speeches. He says he’ll be tough on terrorists; however, he is against ‘water boarding’ for any reason. I can’t figure him out.

I may regret it later, but I’m leaning on Mike Huckabee.

I’m gonna fire up the Star again this Saturday. It’s been at least three weeks since the last time. Boy, am I getting the itch to ride? The weather is warming slightly today and flirting with above freezing temperatures. That, along with the increased daylight, really gets me anxious! It’s a classic case of ‘cabin fever’.

That’s all for now, until next time, see ya.

Sick of the Cold!

I'm getting a little behind on my blog. Well, it's been cold!
I was in Glennallen the other day on business, and the temp reading in my truck said -39. That's 39 below zero! That same day, just two hours further up the highway in Tok, it was -70. Last summer I rode my bike out to Tok, but that day it was about 70 above zero.
Here in Anchorage it's been hovering between 10 below and 10 above. Boy, am I getting cabin fever, especially since football is over.

The Superbowl was a good game to watch. I know my prediction of 38-17 was way off, but that is typical of how my winter has been going. What I still can't understand is that 4th and 13 decision to go for it rather than attempt a field goal. Bellechek doesn't normally pull bonehead moves like that, especially in the big show. But as far as entertainment, it was a great game.

Mitt Romney must be wondering if he exited a bit too early. Since he bowed out, Mike Huckabee has been surging. Will it be enough for him to overtake McCain's big lead? I doubt it, but I am pulling for the underdog.
I personally think Romney's departure was a cold slap in the face for conservatives who can't stomach McCain and his liberal tendencies. It served to consolidate those conservative votes to one man, where previously they were being split between he and Mitt.
I know that I picked Hillary to win the Dems, but I am not surprised at the fight that Obama has put up, given his fund raising prowess. Remember, he with the most money usually wins. And, the man can surely speak! An Obama win will actually save me a steak dinner wager I have.

As I write this, Fox news was reporting on the terrible cold spell that is hitting the east. They said temps were hitting -50 when you count the wind chill. Wind chill? What a bunch of puss'. If you add a small breeze to -70, you quickly have -100. Please! You Easterners are such babies!

Geez! Now I see that Susan Eisenhower has endorsed Obama. How can these so called Republicans keep jumping ship? Hello! He is considered the MOST liberal Senator of all based on his voting record! He has publicly stated he WILL raise taxes.
I could go on, but those are two biggies.
Until next time,
See Ya

Donkey in Elephant Suit

While John McCain’s popularity and poll numbers soar, I can’t help but wonder “where the heck have all the Conservatives gone?”

Are they throwing in the towel? Are they so frustrated about never having a true conservative candidate that they are simply giving up? It’s very tempting at times.

John McCain is by no means a conservative. He hangs his hat on national security issues like the surge, but please, his ignoring of our own border security actually contributes to our nation’s lack of security. His position on having troops in Iraq for up to 100 years is ludicrous. Finally, he can take his “reaching across the aisle” record of teaming up with Feingold, Kennedy or even Clinton and stick it where the sun don’t shine! To me, that is not “reaching across the aisle”, it’s more like “selling out”.

This nation needs a true conservative leader, one who will take a “classic republican” stance (you’ve heard of ‘classic rock’? I’m a ‘classic Republican’) and put this nation back on a traditional course.

Please, if you too are a “classic Republican”, don’t give up. Rally your friends to get to the polls and vote for a conservative. I have not been a Romney supporter (I support Paul), but with McCain’s surge, I’m getting scared. Scared enough to jump on Romney’s wagon and try to avert the ultimate disaster of electing a liberal.  Romney would be much better than the first woman, the first black man, or McCain the donkey in an elephant suit.

So I See

I got an eye exam on Saturday, and was pleased with my results. It seems that my left eye improved slightly over the last exam which was almost 18 moths ago. How can that be? I never heard of eyesight actually improving with age. But mine did, in fact, the count that helps determine a case of glaucoma was improved as well.

I can only attribute these improvements to two things. The first being the fact that I am totally in tune with my entire being, mind, body, and soul. Thus, I am able to monitor by bodily functions to the point of modifying behavior on the fly to compensate for brewing symptoms before they escalate into full blown health problems.

Whereas, at the first indication of deteriorating eyesight, I was able to modify my diet to the actual benefit and improvement of the eye’s health. It’s kinda a zen thing and difficult to fully explain. All I can say is when you fully realize and understand what your being is telling you, only then will you completely comprehend my mental status.

The second explanation, which is also more likely, is that the numbers from my previous exam were not correct. That would indicate that my eyes haven’t really improved at all; rather, they have not deteriorated any further.

That is definitely a more reasonable and likely explanation. In fact, I’d say the only thing reason one really explains is how full of crap I am.

  How about a new subject?

I have heard and read recently that of all babies born in our country to black women; almost 70% are out of wedlock. A staggering figure I believe. The figure for white women is in the mid twenties, and for Hispanics it is in the low forties. Overall, for all women it is about 37% nationwide.

What’s wrong with those numbers? Besides the obvious disadvantage that those babies are at from birth, it says a lot about our cultures. It also suggests a few other subtleties. One being the constant eroding of masculinity in our culture, or at least, the redefining of it.

Being a man is defined by today’s young black men as nailing all the hoes you can. No commitment or morality really comes into play. It’s all about status, and if you nail lots of hoes…you have status. A generation of growing up fatherless is now perpetuating into more fatherless children. The huge difference between the races is hard to ignore.

When I hear Obama, Edwards and Clinton talk about helping the poor single mothers working two jobs to keep things afloat, I can only wonder “what about the fathers of those kids?” When will the government hold them responsible? When will black leaders hold them responsible? And, most important, when will black women hold them responsible?

This issue is an important one for our nation; yet nobodies talking about it. Everyone is too busy arguing about gay marriage and immigration. Gay marriage will obviously perpetuate the breakdown of our family culture, but can it damage the black culture any more than it already is? I doubt it.

Our prison population is another thing that bothers me, but I’v gone deep enough for one day. So ‘ll catch you all later.

Who is the Holiest Democrat?

I’m back from a weeks vacation, but while I was gone there was another Democratic Debate between Presidential candidates on TV.

I was unable to watch the actual debate, but I did read the manuscript of it that was posted on the web.

Frankly, I couldn’t tell who won. I am quite sure however, that John Edwards lost the debate. This race has recently become a two horse contest between Clinton and Obama. And thus the media’s concentration on the duo’s sparring.

There was endless banter about who helps the poor the most. Also, who’s poor is actually broker than the other candidate’s poor. It’s actually ironic that these two millionaires were arguing with each other about who will end poverty.

Then John Edwards chimes in with his little story about a single black woman with four kids. She has to decide every night whether to pay the rent or the heating bill. She has to dress her children in all of their winter gear when she puts them to bed. Then she tells them to keep quiet at school for fear of them being taken away from her. Really a tear jerking story that Mr. Edwards was putting forth. And he went on to explain that no one should have to live like that. And if elected he would solve these woes.

I got one question…where are the fathers of these children? The woman does not need the government to bail her out. What she needs is the government’s help in holding the fathers financially responsible.

She should really think about not having children out of wedlock. In fact, it was reported that 70% of all babies born to black women in America are out of wedlock. That is the root of the problem. That is ultimately the key to fixing the problem. But, blacks in America would rather have a national holiday for Martin Luther King than address the core problems in this country. And I’m gonna say it….black men are to blame more than anyone else. Identifying the culprits is crucial to understanding and fixing the problem.

I know it takes two to tango, but a man has to own up to his acts. A man has to be a man. For some reason, black men feel that having sex with many partners is a sign of manhood, but taking care of their children is not.

I prefer to take responsibility for the health and well being of my five children, regardless of the fact I am divorced from their mother. I actually feel good that I am able to provide for them and care for them. Maybe someday they will have to take care of me. At least I won’t feel so guilty.

The whole debate was quite entertaining, even though I had to read it. It’s amazing how the Democrats all believe that throwing dollars at a problem is the best way to fix it.

So, Hillary and Obama are dueling it out for the nomination, but I’ll say it right here and now that if either of them become President our nation will crumble. Then we better get used to wearing towels on our heads.

 Until next time, see ya.

In and Out Again

Yeah, OK, I know, I hear ya, OK, ‘nuff said.

So I was only 3 out of 4 last week, that’s still not a bad average. Hell, if the Tampa offense could have converted 3 of 4 third downs, maybe I would be 4 and 0!

 Whatever!

So now that the Bucs are out, who do I like? That’s the question on everybody’s mind. Should I go with NYG and take my chances on a streaky Eli Manning, or do I go with Dallas and the return of TO?

Really, I just don’t see the Giants playing over their heads again. How long can they keep doing that? I think it ends this week. But that does change my bracket slightly.

So now you’ll notice I have Dallas advancing, then losing to Green Bay. Then the rest of my bracket remains unchanged. Although, the Seahawks are really starting to worry me.

I’m off on vacation this week, and won’t return until after next weeks games are played. Bummer.

Are you getting prepared for the football hangover?

You know what I’m talking about. After the Superbowl there is no football until late summer. Talk about withdrawals!

I guess the best thing for that is to find something to occupy your time. Me? Motorcycling. That’s right, motorcycling!

There’s nothing better to take your mind of the lack of football than a nice long ride in the saddle.

But if that’s not your cup of tea, chin up, there’s always the Alaska Wild arena football games that start in early March.

Can’t do either? The ol’ lady won’t let you? I’ve got your solution. But it’s gonna take your complete focus and attention. Take a couple deep breathes, and when you think you are ready, read the following instructions….

The secret to changing her mind and getting to buy a motorcycle or season tickets to arena football is simple…GROW SOME GONADS!

Whoops, Did I say that out loud?

You heard right! Grow some balls and tell, don’t ask, her how it’s gonna be. I mean, it’s not like you don’t deserve it. In fact, you deserve more. But I’d settle on one of those two for this year, and get something more next year. After all, football hangovers seem to come around every year about this time. Good luck.

Call Me Swami

Just sitting here watching the Tampa Bay Bucs take on the NY Giants, third quarter and the Bucs have the ball. And I’m gloating just a bit about the games that were played yesterday. I predicted the Seahawks and the Jaguars to advance.

I also said the Bucs and the Chargers will advance. Those games have yet to be finished.

However, I must leave for the airport before this game ends, and I’ll be gone until Friday. So however the two Sunday games turn out, I won’t be able to update the playoff tree until then. So be patient!

Currently the Bucs are down by ten, but I’m not too worried about it

I catch up on Friday, until then, see ya.

  Happy New Year Wishes

Here's wishing you all a Happy New Year!
And I'm still hoping for 'peace on earth and goodwill towards white, middleclass, everyday Joes'.
And when I say peace on earth, I don't mean backing down in the Middle East. Rather, we need to get tougher and more deliberate. We need to hunt down the extremists wherever they hide. We need to tell any and all countries over there that we can and will come in to get them. We are not looking for a fight with said countries, but neither are we asking permission.
The first primaries are a couple days away, and I urge all Americans to take it seriously and thoughtfully at the polls. And certainly, please get out and vote. Don't believe for a second that the primaries are not important, they are part of the process. The process isn't perfect but it's all we have.
Whether you support the current administration or not, I guarantee if Hillary becomes President this country will backslide in terms of both our domestic economy and our world perception. And ultimately, our position as the most powerful nation on earth.

      End of the Year

Tomorrow is the last day of 2007. The year sure seemed to fly by, but all in all I’m ready for 2008. We have another Presidential election coming up, the Beavers have a chance to three-peat as the College Baseball National Champs, and I only have one child left in high school.

I’ll be following the Presidential campaigns and commenting on them right here. This will most surely be a year of firsts. Will it be the first Woman, the first Black, the first Mormon, or the first Italian? I can’t tell you the answer, but I can tell you that it will be a crucial point in the future of this country. Personally, I don’t care for any of them. In fact, depending on who wins, I may have to move to another country.

The OSU Beavers football team finished third in the PAC-10, then got screwed by the BCS. They were sent to the Emerald Bowl where usually the forth place team goes. It was purely a political decision by the Sun Bowl officials who exercised their option to not invite a repeat team. At any rate, the Beavs kicked Maryland’s ass 21-14. The final score was deceiving, as the Beaver D held the Terps to just 19 rushing yards.

The Beavers baseball program has a chance to three-peat as the National Champs. So, the football team is a real contender, the baseball team is the nation’s best, we just need to get some good recruits for the basketball program.

I have one child left in high school. Two out on their own, and two still in college. There is a light at the end of the tunnel! Maybe in a year or two, I can actually afford to get a Harley Road King!

The one change I’m working on is making this site mobile friendly. This is a work in progress, since I don’t really have any education in computers. Everything here I’ve learned through trial and error. So that’s how I’m proceeding…trial and error. But, when I’m through this should be a mobile friendly site that you can easily read on your phone or PDA. It’s fun and I think that the mobile sites are where the real growth will be.

I welcome your comments whether you agree or disagree. Just remember to keep it clean. You don’t have to agree with me, you have every right to be wrong!

Getting Ready for a New Year

Well, 2007 is winding down. I figured it was time to start a new blog page. The old one was getting quite long. But if you wanted to read any of the old stuff, I archived it on another link. Just go back to my homepage and click on Bull Blog II.  Otherwise, this is still the place for my current bloviating (to steal a word from O’reilly).

Hey, just a reminder. The Beavers play in the Emerald Bowl today against Maryland. It’s on the tube somewhere, so check it out.

          Go Beavs!
